DIOCESAN MINISTRIES APPEAL
Be a Good Samaritan
By coming together as one family of faith, our gifts to the Diocesan Ministries Appeal help support our senior priests in their retirement, the education of our seminarians, inner-city area Catholic Education and Catholic Charities.
“The Parable of the Good Samaritan indicates what the relationship must be toward our suffering neighbor. We are not allowed to pass by on the other side indifferently; we must stop beside him.”
—St. John Paul II
Catholic Charities—with help from the Appeal—serves thousands of our neighbors each year. Ministries include outreach to veterans, families in need of food and clothing, assistance to seniors, group homes for adults with disabilities and direct care for those struggling with addiction.
When you give to the Appeal, you stop beside the person in need. You become a good Samaritan.
“Anyone who needs me, and whom I can help, is my neighbor.”
—Pope Benedict XVI
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life, and our clergy provides this spiritual nourishment to the faithful. Therefore, vocations to the priesthood are a priority for our Diocese. Your support of the Appeal funds seminarian education so that those planning on serving the Church for a lifetime can focus solely on their studies and be the best priests possible for you, your children and your grandchildren.
“To serve one's neighbor is to love God through deeds.”
—Pope Leo XIV
In the inner city, good academic options are sometimes limited which makes it difficult for children and their families. The Appeal supports St. Gerard Majella School in Paterson and also the Academy of St. James in Totowa which welcomes students from Paterson. Your kindness provides these students facing economic challenges with a world of limitless opportunities.
“He who loves and serves another freely as a neighbor lives and acts according to the Gospel and takes part in the mission of the Church.”
—Pope Benedict XVI
After decades of pastoral care to parishioners, our diocesan priests deserve our support in their retirement. Your gift to the Appeal helps fund Nazareth Village retirement residence in Chester and provides assistance to our senior priests with extraordinary healthcare needs. Your generosity is a beautiful way to acknowledge their lifetime of service to the Church and its parishioners.
